Book of the Month: March

Walking around campus, you’ll always see students carrying their current reads. For the past month, we’ve conducted an extensive poll across all grades to determine the true Firebird Book of the Month.

The results are in… Dune by Frank Herbert.

As someone who has just finished reading Dune, I can definitely recommend it as one of the best science fiction books I’ve ever read! Dune is the inspiration behind masterpieces such as the Star Wars Saga, Game of Thrones, Star Trek, and even The Matrix.

The book is set 20,000 years in the future and takes place on the planet of Arrakis, which is greatly contested between the Houses in power as Arrakis is the only planet with a valuable resource named “spice”.

Paul Atreides, Son of Duke Leto Atreides and Bene Gesserit trained Lady Jessica, a brilliant and gifted individual with powers of controlling people is born into a destiny as a Messiah. Paul must travel to the dangerous planet of Arrakis and face great trouble ensuring the safety of his family and his people.

The message behind Dune is to beware of heroes, as all who seek power hurt people achieve it.
